Adventures In Tacoma’s Cannabis Farmer’s Market

This week my adventures took me to The Patient Cannabis Exchange in Tacoma, WA. I didn’t go there with high hopes but I have kept hearing that is was a great place to visit so I thought I would give it a visit.

I was pleasantly surprised. While this place is not fancy it’s charm comes with the people inside. There was a lot of vendors to choose from offering a wide variety of flowers, products, edibles, topicals, and concentrates. I was really impressed with the amount of edibles that was available with really interesting options even for a picky girl like me. I also got to meet one of my favorite cannabis food bloggers, THChristi!

I ended up spending a little more time than I was planning to spend there because I was so warmly welcomed. The vendors were wonderful to talk to and the other people visiting made for an upbeat but mellow crowd to be part of.

I really appreciate the cannabis farmer’s markets that we currently have with medical marijuana in Washington State. This model of farmer to patient is incredibly helpful for patients who can get the best deal possible, learn everything about their medicine from the person who grew it, find the wide variety of choices that most patients need.

Not only that but the markets are a place for the MMJ community to meet other patients, come together, share stories, give hugs, and learn how to be part of positive change for medical marijuana.

Thank you to all the people who make these safe access points happen.

Chia Hemp Turtle Bites

Chia Hemp Turtle Bites

Dairy free, gluten free, egg free, and zero processed sugar. That describes the treat created when I tried to make a Hemp Turtle.  Those words also describe all of my food. It’s strict compared to most people I know and it takes commitment.

I rebel when necessary by making my own treats and reinventing food I’m craving to have hemp in it. Strange hobby, I know.

The Chia Hemp Turtle Bites in today’s recipe are a little tedious, require a chocolate/cookie mold of some sort, and will go fast. But they are easy to make, do not require an oven, and while not intended to be eaten in one sitting you would get a healthy dose of fiber, protein, and essential fatty acids if you did.

Chia Hemp Turtle Bites

1/4C coconut oil
1/4C raw cacao powder
1T raw honey
1C raw cashews, soaked
1/3C ground hemp and chia seeds
2t vanilla
1C medjool dates
1/3C pecans

1) In a double boiler, gently melt coconut oil, honey, and mix in raw cacao. Keep the heat low, you are only just melting it enough to mix it.

2) Pour a small layer of chocolate in your mold. Freeze to set.

3) Blend/process cashews until smooth, mix with ground hemp/chia seeds, vanilla, and dates.

4) Scoop hemp layer into mold on top of chocolate. Press a pecan half into the top and spoon another layer of chocolate on top. Freeze for a few hours to set.

5) Remove from freezer and let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes:

1) The amount of filling that this recipe makes is a more than the chocolate will take you, depending on how you put them together.  I recommend using the extra to make more turtles or different kinds of cookie balls by adding a little coconut flour, and nuts or chocolate.

2) The next time I make these I will make the chocolate layer a little thinner for a better mouth melting experience.

3) The middle layer came out a little softer than intended, but it is still post worthy.

Thanks for reading!
