Cannabis Love Juice

Cannabis Love Juice

Cannabis Love Juice

I woke up this morning with a stiff body and a desire for a fresh juice to take with a morning shot of cannabis juice. I needed something simple and easy to digest first thing.

What I ended up building was a juice with beets, raw cannabis, and apples. Love juice. The end product came out super red, sweet, and delicious.

Cannabis Love Juice:

1 apple

1 large red beet

1 handful of raw cannabis leaves

  1. Put all ingredients through the juicer.
  2. Drink immediately.

How To Cook With Hemp: The Visual Feast Of 2015

It has been a brutal week of migraines, intense muscle spasms, depression, and anxiety. At the end of it I know I’ve made it through the other side and can again reclaim my life which includes dusting off my laptop and writing year end wrap-ups for TwiceBakedinWA.

I have been going through my food photos from this past year and decided to just make a slideshow to share with you and inspire myself to keep focused on eating well through the holiday party season and into 2016.

Looking at these pictures is a positive reminder about the good things that can be done at every meal possible to look after my body.

I also did a little rough math and figured out that I consumed at least 25 pounds of hemp not to mention the pounds and pounds of raw cannabis matter I have eaten and juiced this year. So, grab a drink and watch How Cook Hemp For A Whole Year:

Managing Your Mental Health: 4 Remedies For Depression

IMG_0761

As I rolled a joint this morning to find an appetite and be motivated to juice some raw cannabis, I felt the need to also Periscope about it being Mental Health Awareness Week and how I manage my own mental health.

I needed to reminisce about my entire last week spent in the dark because of a fairly debilitating migraine. Not only was there a migraine, but my mind was inundated with creativity, and my empathic senses were set to intense. That migraine was followed by a very severe depression. Talk about being in a funk.

Of all the health issues I deal with, depression alarms me the most. It’s a pretty serious thing and I believe it requires immediate attention although it can take some time to lift out of. My depressed brain doesn’t eat the same, can’t think the same, doesn’t love the same, and isn’t able to feel the same. I just sort of go into a numb mode.

Fortunately I have not been depressed every day of my life and have learned ways to manage it when it does rolls in.

4 Things I Recommend To Manage Depression:

Sleep: Make getting a full night of sleep a lifestyle priority because this is the time that your brain literally cleans itself. Don’t feel bad for taking a nap during the day as needed.

Exercise: Physically move yourself for at least 30 minutes every single day. Outside in nature is ideal. Gardening, walking, dancing, lifting weights, whatever- just move. Moderate exercise releases dopamine in the brain which makes you experience happy. It is very important to feel moments of happiness and light during a depression.

Eat good food and stay hydrated: You can’t get enough nutrients at this point so think vegetables and healthy protein, like hemp, that is also high in fiber and omega3 fatty acids. The healthier your gut is fed the better your brain will feel. Avoid processed sugar in all its forms as it is a major depressant.

Use Cannabis: I find it beneficial to use cannabis to help regulate receptors in my brain when I’m given depressed moods. Nothing is quite as quick and effective to set your brain right and give you the ability to feel positive things again as smoking or vaping a little cannabis.

Remember You Are Not Alone: Try not to spend too much time alone and isolated, if you are depressed. Do reach out to other people no matter how hard and if you know somebody who deals with depression do reach out to them because even just a thought from somebody else provides a valuable lift.

Love to all who read this. Stay lifted.

Fresh Cannabis Pulp, All The Healthy Kids Are Doing It

Fresh picked cannabis leaves.

Fresh picked cannabis leaves.

I get excited about having raw cannabis leaves during the summer growing season. Fresh picked they are so fragrant and plump I intuitively feel like I am about to make a good choice for my body if I eat them.

While frequently I will run leaves through a juicer to extract pure cannabis juice, I also like to simply put them into a blender with a little water or coconut water and make a pulp.

Fresh Cannabis Pulp

I store that pulp in the fridge and use it in smoothies and other yummy summertime beverages. It will keep in the fridge for about three days.

You can freeze the pulp in ice cube trays to preserve it further, but you will lose the live enzymes and affect the flavor.

Why blend and use the pulp over juicing? One reason is fiber. Bringing this superfood fiber into your nutrition will feed and “cleanse” your digestive system. When your digestive system is running right, your brain will run right.

5 Years On Weed

I just mentioned two powerful methods of using cannabis for wellness that don't get me high. Do I still use other methods that are psychoactive? Absolutely, and as often as is compassionately necessary.

I am going into my fifth year as a cannabis patient. What a ride it has been. When I was first going through the process of getting a legal doctor’s recommendation for medical cannabis I was dealing with scoliosis, severe pain, muscle spasms, migraines, depression, anxiety, low immunity, and digestive sensitivities.

Actually, I still deal with many of those issues but I have learned how to manage them better using cannabis. My journey with medical marijuana has allowed me to explore in depth the many ways to use cannabis for absolute relief of my symptoms.

Not only that, but I have seen another side of my health restored where I am not just using marijuana to only relieve my symptoms, I am able to use it to experience what it feels like to mentally and physically thrive when everything is running right.

My approach to medical cannabis has been a holistic one. I know that it is a superfood like no other and consuming it in its raw form gives me energy and makes me feel alive. Raw cannabis has also, more than once, provided a lift from depression, which to me feels more significant than even the pain relief.

Let me just say that this medical cannabis stuff is work. At least the growing and the juicing part of it is. I juice raw cannabis and that requires that I collect leaves, more than I can currently grow myself. I am part of a medical cannabis collective where one of my jobs is to prune plants which gives me plenty of fresh plant matter during growing season. I am so grateful to have this arrangement available to me because it took me a lot of networking to find it. I can’t imagine not juicing it now as part of my long-term health management program.

While at one time I dismissed that a topical could be effective for my conditions, I now find myself also using cannabis topically for relief of more things than just pain. I use them to relieve migraines, menstral cramps, muscle spasms, muscle soreness, and even anxiety. I’m so thankful to have a simple potion in my bag that I can apply no matter where I happen to be and where I don’t even have to think about whether I am taking an indica or sativa. I no longer travel anywhere without a topical on me and I try to keep a healthy stash on hand in my medicine cabinet.

All this being said, I want more than relief in this life, I want to experience what it is like to thrive. I’m not looking to get high and zone out, I’m looking for the ability to climb mountains and check in.

For those of you who have followed me along the way, thank you so much for your support.

Raw Cannabis And Mango Popsicles

Raw Cannabis Popsicle

It has been about a year and a half  since I was able to first try consuming raw cannabis. I continue to say that there is nothing like raw cannabis. While every marijuana delivery method comes with benefits I have yet to experience anything like the goodness that I get when I eat it raw too.

Eating cannabis raw provides a meal with the cannabinoids in their acid state that allow you to consume a lot more of them. This morning, for example, I added 70g of raw cannabis pulp to a breakfast smoothie, about 1/3C. It did not make me feel high but I did feel very energized and positive as I took on my day.

I’ve been playing with freezing cannabis in popsicle forms this summer. Having cannabis served as a delicious popsicle is total a delight to my marijuana appreciating senses. Cooling, delicious, and fun to eat.

Raw Cannabis Mango Popsicles

Measure how much liquid your molds hold and plan accordingly. Mine held 1.5C of liquid.

3/4 C raw cannabis juice

1 mango, pureed

3/4C coconut water

1/4 C blueberries

Option 1: Blend everything together except  blueberries. add blueberries into the mold and freeze. They will turn out a lovely green.

Option 2: Create layers by mixing coconut water with mango and cannabis juice seperately and alternating spoonfuls into the molds, adding blueberries to each layer. They will turn out as pictured above.

Enjoy these with a side of gratitude for being able to consume cannabis as food. Food is medicine, you know.
